You know what, that reviewer wasn't fair! The whole point of the novel was that the self-indulgence comes from a place where these raced, ethnic women cannot seem to find a stable location for their identities. K-town seems suggestive of a location to hold on to, to develop some sort of tenuous connection, but obviously, it fails for these Korean/American women. To say it's self-indulgent doesn't take into account at all this cultural specific experience!!
