1) LOL Psylocke. So true. I was also very interested in what the hell was going with her back story and why she was a white British woman in a Japanese ninja's body.

2) I wanted to like Exit West a lot because of that really provocative speculative fiction novum of the doors that connected different parts of the world. I agree that it functions at a fable-like level with its lack of specificity of the main characters' national origins and with the general claims it made about people and migration. I think it was ultimately a bit frustrating because it seemed to flatten out really complex questions about migration, colonialism, racism, and other things into pretty simplistic ideals of individual morality and communal values.
